Tweet Tweet – are you twittering yet….
Every second newspaper article and news report seemed to be mentioning Twitter, Twittering was overheard in conversations in cafés, on the radio – I started to get nervous and to feel I was missing out on something – not just something new, but a new way to network and connect with people – passionate networker that I am. I wanted to try it and see if it was just a waste of time or whether there was something about Twitter that could enhance our lives, our communities, our businesses.
I signed on (it is easy), however I quickly learned something about it that is worth passing on – You must be focused!! I had signed on as womentravelnz but soon found that I was blogging a lot about Waipu and Bream Bay where I live. So I started another twitter waipunz which was more focussed on my local twitters. I then placed a widget of womentravelnz twitter on my Women Travel Blog, and a widget of my waipunz twitter on my Bream Bay Blog.
This started to make more sense – and when one of Jo Couchman’s excellent Wordpress mailings came through suggesting to Blog weekly and Twitter Daily, I started to see the point of twittering. Older style websites are about putting up static information about a company or group – who does what and where and what they sell or produce or do. All very important, but now Web2.0 has come along with language such as social networking, blogging, twittering, and for many of us our eyes have glazed over and we have said “its too hard”.
But this is where it gets interesting – and websites become conversations, and questions and collaboration – all great stuff – the stuff of life. So when I set up this Web2Blog site, it seemed I needed another twitter - Web2blog, where I can twitter about web stuff i have learned or come across or been frustrated by.
So what have I learned about twitter
- twitter daily – or at least frequently
- publish the twitter on your website/s
- be focused on the subject matter of your website
- use it to enhance the dynamic and ever changing content of your site
- you can have multiple tweets, but each must have a different email address
- note down the passwords for each tweet before you forget
- its fun and a great way to add value to a website
