I recently told a (young) friend that I was doing some work teaching people to use Facebook and he laughed! The thought that anyone might need help with Facebook was beyond him – the young have taken to it like a duck to water and need no training.
For a passionate networker like myself Facebook is an amazing tool. Yes you need to know how to manage it, but when you do, it’s a great way to keep in touch with friends, to build connections for your business or community group or to advocate for a cause.
I recently set up a Facebook Page for a cause – Changing Attitudes NZ : advocating for change in the Anglican Church in relation to Gay and Lesbian people. Within a few days we had 50 followers, within 2 weeks over one hundred followers and several contributors. Before this, there was just an email list – which bombarded people with more information than they really needed – it is hard to not start to resent all those emails spilling into an already overfull in box.
Interested in Facebook – work through this great post, which also looks at setting up your personal Facebook Page well. Facebook 101 for business
